WEIGHT LOSS HYPNOTHERAPY IN UTAH

You already know how to lose weight. That was never the problem.

Let’s be real — the part of you that knows how to lose weight isn’t the part in charge of your menu. The changes you have made mostly last until the excitement wears off. Especially at 8 PM. Especially around friends. That’s the part I work with.

✓ Stop fighting yourself.

✓ Change how you feel about food — even when you’re stressed

✓ Learn what actually makes change last.

✓ In person in Ogden. Virtual from your Layton, Bountiful, or Sandy home.

SOUND FAMILIAR?

Why Diets Keep Failing You (It Is Not Your Fault)

If you are like most people, losing weight has less to do with what your head knows and more to do with what your taste buds want when you’re stressed, tired, or running on empty. Then there’s what happens around friends, when nobody else seems worried about the food — and you don’t want to be the one making it weird. Ugh. The temptation is real, and it is visceral. Especially when your diet never accounted for the reality of living in Utah.

Utah Winter Comfort Eating

Those long Davis County winters. When inversions trap you indoors for weeks in Bountiful and Kaysville. Hot chocolate at Station Park becomes your comfort. The holiday season from Thanksgiving Point to New Year’s adds 10 pounds before you realize it.

The I-15 Fast Food Trap

Commuting from Clearfield to Hill Air Force Base. From Farmington to downtown Salt Lake. You pass Chick-fil-A, In-N-Out, and Café Rio every exit. You are exhausted, hungry, and the drive-through takes 3 minutes. The pattern feels impossible to break.

Weekend BBQs and Potlucks

Summer means Lagoon trips with funnel cakes. Fall means tailgates at Weber State. Sunday dinners in Syracuse and Roy mean casseroles and dessert. Food is love here – and saying no feels rude. So you eat past full, every single week.
“I know what I should eat. I just cannot make myself do it consistently.” This is not a willpower problem. It is an automatic pattern problem — what most people call the subconscious. And that is exactly what hypnotherapy helps you change.
WHY HYPNOTHERAPY?

How Hypnotherapy Compares to Other Approaches

What It Works On The automatic thoughts, feelings, and habits behind the weight What you eat, through conscious effort Appetite and metabolic signaling
What It Asks of You Willingness to look at your patterns and learn to change them Willpower, every meal Staying on the medication
What Happens Long-Term You learn how to actually make changes to your automatic thoughts, feelings, and habits About ¾ of the lost weight returns within 5 years¹ Weight usually returns after stopping²

BMJ. 2026;392:e085304. 37 studies, 9,341 participants; average regain of 0.4 kg/month after stopping, with weight projected to return to pre-treatment levels within about 1.7 years.

I am for science-backed diets and prescribed medication when your doctor thinks it is needed. What I’m against is people not getting the help they need to sustain the change — and almost nobody gets help with the thoughts, feelings, and habits that make change stick. That’s my part, and that’s the gap I work in.

WHY IT TAKES TIME

Why Change Often Takes Several Months, Not One Session

Most people come in thinking they have one problem: more fat than they want. That assumption is one of the reasons their last diet failed.

Imagine Mary. Thirty-five pounds gained over twenty years of raising kids, and she is ready to be done with it. In the first twenty minutes of talking, here is what surfaces:

She is ashamed of her body and hates the way she looks.

She starts the day strong, then can’t say no to sweets in the evening.

She eats when she is stressed.

At social events, she feels like she is letting people down if she doesn’t eat what everyone else is eating.

One small slip and the whole day is blown, so she eats everything in sight.

Sweet and salty foods tempt her every afternoon.

She knows what belongs on her plate, and she still goes back for seconds and thirds of the wrong things.

She commits to exercise, loses steam within days, and restarts. Over and over.

She can’t say no when someone she loves offers her something she’d rather not eat.

How many of those patterns do you recognize?

That is nine patterns, and we found them before the first session was half over — nine, running unchecked for twenty years. And she hadn’t even started to describe the ones she runs automatically, without ever noticing.

When we sit down, we will look at your patterns together — but a new client walking in with nine automatic patterns is usually on the low end. Most people I work with are carrying somewhere between nine and eighteen that have been quietly running the show for years.

Two things determine how long we need to work together: how many patterns have been driving the weight, and how quickly you respond to the work. We do the work that creates the change, and teach you to run your patterns so your patterns don’t run you.

Among US adults who have ever been overweight, fewer than one in ten has kept off 15% of their weight for even a year.³ Not because they lack discipline. Because they were fighting on multiple fronts with tools for one. People learned not to eat donuts. Nobody taught them what to do with the thoughts and feelings underneath.

Here is what was not on Mary’s original list, because she didn’t know to say it: around week two or three of any new plan, a part of her starts to feel like she is missing out, and the cravings come back stronger than before.

She isn’t imagining it. She just didn’t know she needed to plan for self-sabotage patterns.

Invisible patterns start emerging weeks into a change process. I plan on watching for them.

Success is what happens once the excitement wears off and the pattern stays changed.

So Mary doesn’t just need a diet. She needs to reshape her relationship with food, with her routines, and with herself. She needs systems for the hard moments instead of more white-knuckle willpower.

Ultimately, Mary needs the new way of living to become as automatic as the old patterns she’s replacing. That is what long-term success looks like.

You are not Mary. Your list is your own — shorter in some places, longer in others, and carrying a few things she never had to deal with.

But you have one. Almost everyone who walks through my door does, and most of them had never had anyone sit down and help them find it. Left alone, these patterns don’t fade. Mary’s ran for twenty years before anyone named them out loud.

You don’t have to guess at your own list. Creating a map of your patterns is part of what we start with in our consultation.

³ Kraschnewski JL, et al. Long-term weight loss maintenance in the United States. Int J Obes. 2010;34(11):1644-1654. Among 14,306 NHANES participants who had ever been overweight or obese, 8.5% maintained a loss of 15% or more for at least one year.
WHAT TO EXPECT

What Actually Happens in a Weight Loss Hypnotherapy Session

No swinging watches. No mind control. Here is what really happens when you work with me:

1. We Talk First I learn about your specific eating patterns, triggers, and what you have already tried. We identify the emotional connections driving your behavior.

2. Settling In You get comfortable (your couch works great for virtual sessions). I guide you into a calm, focused state of attention. You are aware of everything. You stay aware and in control the whole time.

3. Working With Your Subconscious In that focused state, we work directly with the patterns driving emotional eating, cravings, and self-sabotage. This is where the real change happens.

4. Emergence and Integration You return to full alertness feeling calm and motivated. We discuss insights and I give you a recording to reinforce the work between sessions.

YOUR HYPNOTHERAPIST

Meet Will

I have spent over 17 years helping people break free from unwanted patterns, and I have completed more than 20,000 hypnosis sessions with 3,000+ individuals. But numbers do not tell the real story.

What matters is this: I understand what it feels like when willpower is not enough. When you know what you should do but cannot make yourself do it consistently. That disconnect between your conscious intentions and your actual behavior? That is exactly what I help people resolve.

I practice four modalities: hypnosis, mindfulness, NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), and meridian tapping. This gives you multiple tools for creating lasting change – not just with food, but with the emotional patterns underneath.

I am based in Ogden but work with clients throughout Utah via virtual sessions. Whether you are in Bountiful, Farmington, the suburbs of Kaysville, or anywhere in Davis and Weber County – I can help.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Common Questions About Weight Loss Hypnotherapy

Does hypnotherapy really work for weight loss?
In my experience, yes — for people willing to put in the time to find their patterns and work through them. Hypnotherapy works on the automatic patterns behind emotional eating, cravings, and the feeling that you’re fighting yourself. Diets lean on willpower, and willpower runs out. The goal here is for healthy choices to start feeling like your own idea instead of a rule. Everyone’s different, which is what the 15-minute consultation is for.
Will I be under someone's control?
Absolutely not. This is the most common misconception from stage hypnosis shows. You stay aware and in control the whole time. Think of it as a state of focused attention — like being absorbed in a great book. You remember everything.
Do I need to follow a strict diet too?
No strict diet required. Hypnotherapy helps healthy choices feel natural rather than forced. Many clients find they naturally gravitate toward better foods, eat smaller portions, and stop when satisfied – without the constant mental battle. You do not need to white-knuckle your way through meals.
How many sessions will I need?
How long this takes depends on two things: how many patterns are driving the weight, and how quickly you respond to the work. On average, clients work with me over ten to fifteen sessions. Part of the reason it’s a range and not a number is that you don’t see the whole list on day one — some patterns only surface once you start changing, usually around week two or three. Those get worked too. The 15-minute consultation gives us a first read on what we’d be working with.
Do virtual sessions work as well as in-person?
Yes – I’ve found virtual sessions work really well for hypnotherapy, and many Utah clients actually prefer them. You can relax in your own comfortable space without driving through Farmington or down I-15. All you need is a quiet room, stable internet connection, and headphones.
What if I have been overweight my whole life?
A lot of people who come to me have felt that way. Often the patterns behind the weight were set in childhood or during a hard stretch of life. Hypnotherapy helps identify and shift patterns like those, even ones that have been running for decades. It is never too late to start.
What areas of Utah do you serve?
I work with clients throughout Utah via virtual sessions. This includes Bountiful, Farmington, Kaysville, Clearfield, Roy, Syracuse, Layton, Ogden, Salt Lake City, and all surrounding areas. Whether you are in Davis County, Weber County, or anywhere along the Wasatch Front – if you are in Utah, I can help you.
Why choose Will over other Utah hypnotherapists?
Experience and depth of training. With 17+ years, 20,000+ sessions, and training through HMI, NGH, and AHA, I bring depth of experience. I also practice four modalities – hypnosis, mindfulness, NLP, and meridian tapping – giving you multiple tools. I am the author of “Change: A Little Book for Lasting Freedom” and host of a long-running podcast on personal transformation. Most importantly, I offer a 15-minute consultation so you can see if we are the right fit before committing.
