| What It Works On | The automatic thoughts, feelings, and habits behind the weight | What you eat, through conscious effort | Appetite and metabolic signaling |
| What It Asks of You | Willingness to look at your patterns and learn to change them | Willpower, every meal | Staying on the medication |
| What Happens Long-Term | You learn how to actually make changes to your automatic thoughts, feelings, and habits | About ¾ of the lost weight returns within 5 years¹ | Weight usually returns after stopping² |
| What’s Physically Involved | Conversation and focused attention. Nothing to swallow or inject. | Restriction and tracking | A weekly injection or daily pill |
I am for science-backed diets and prescribed medication when your doctor thinks it is needed. What I’m against is people not getting the help they need to sustain the change — and almost nobody gets help with the thoughts, feelings, and habits that make change stick. That’s my part, and that’s the gap I work in.

Imagine Mary. Thirty-five pounds gained over twenty years of raising kids, and she is ready to be done with it. In the first twenty minutes of talking, here is what surfaces:
She is ashamed of her body and hates the way she looks.
She starts the day strong, then can’t say no to sweets in the evening.
She eats when she is stressed.
At social events, she feels like she is letting people down if she doesn’t eat what everyone else is eating.
One small slip and the whole day is blown, so she eats everything in sight.
Sweet and salty foods tempt her every afternoon.
She knows what belongs on her plate, and she still goes back for seconds and thirds of the wrong things.
She commits to exercise, loses steam within days, and restarts. Over and over.
She can’t say no when someone she loves offers her something she’d rather not eat.
How many of those patterns do you recognize?
That is nine patterns, and we found them before the first session was half over — nine, running unchecked for twenty years. And she hadn’t even started to describe the ones she runs automatically, without ever noticing.
When we sit down, we will look at your patterns together — but a new client walking in with nine automatic patterns is usually on the low end. Most people I work with are carrying somewhere between nine and eighteen that have been quietly running the show for years.
Two things determine how long we need to work together: how many patterns have been driving the weight, and how quickly you respond to the work. We do the work that creates the change, and teach you to run your patterns so your patterns don’t run you.
Among US adults who have ever been overweight, fewer than one in ten has kept off 15% of their weight for even a year.³ Not because they lack discipline. Because they were fighting on multiple fronts with tools for one. People learned not to eat donuts. Nobody taught them what to do with the thoughts and feelings underneath.
Here is what was not on Mary’s original list, because she didn’t know to say it: around week two or three of any new plan, a part of her starts to feel like she is missing out, and the cravings come back stronger than before.
She isn’t imagining it. She just didn’t know she needed to plan for self-sabotage patterns.
Invisible patterns start emerging weeks into a change process. I plan on watching for them.
Success is what happens once the excitement wears off and the pattern stays changed.
So Mary doesn’t just need a diet. She needs to reshape her relationship with food, with her routines, and with herself. She needs systems for the hard moments instead of more white-knuckle willpower.
Ultimately, Mary needs the new way of living to become as automatic as the old patterns she’s replacing. That is what long-term success looks like.
You are not Mary. Your list is your own — shorter in some places, longer in others, and carrying a few things she never had to deal with.
But you have one. Almost everyone who walks through my door does, and most of them had never had anyone sit down and help them find it. Left alone, these patterns don’t fade. Mary’s ran for twenty years before anyone named them out loud.
You don’t have to guess at your own list. Creating a map of your patterns is part of what we start with in our consultation.
1. We Talk First I learn about your specific eating patterns, triggers, and what you have already tried. We identify the emotional connections driving your behavior.
2. Settling In You get comfortable (your couch works great for virtual sessions). I guide you into a calm, focused state of attention. You are aware of everything. You stay aware and in control the whole time.
3. Working With Your Subconscious In that focused state, we work directly with the patterns driving emotional eating, cravings, and self-sabotage. This is where the real change happens.
4. Emergence and Integration You return to full alertness feeling calm and motivated. We discuss insights and I give you a recording to reinforce the work between sessions.
Total session time: about 50 minutesWhat You Get With Every Session:
✓ Personalized session recording (MP3)
✓ Techniques to handle cravings in the moment
✓ Email support if questions come up
✓ Progress tracking to see your shifts

“I visited Will for weight loss help. I was able to address issues from my childhood and teen years that had no bearing on me now. Those therapy sessions served as trigger points to get over my own stumbling blocks. I have been able to get on a good weight loss program and succeed in a considerable weight loss.”

17+ Years · 20,000+ One-on-One Sessions · 3,000+ Individuals
I have spent over 17 years helping people break free from unwanted patterns, and I have completed more than 20,000 hypnosis sessions with 3,000+ individuals. But numbers do not tell the real story.
What matters is this: I understand what it feels like when willpower is not enough. When you know what you should do but cannot make yourself do it consistently. That disconnect between your conscious intentions and your actual behavior? That is exactly what I help people resolve.
I practice four modalities: hypnosis, mindfulness, NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), and meridian tapping. This gives you multiple tools for creating lasting change – not just with food, but with the emotional patterns underneath.
I am based in Ogden but work with clients throughout Utah via virtual sessions. Whether you are in Bountiful, Farmington, the suburbs of Kaysville, or anywhere in Davis and Weber County – I can help.Credentials:
